Carnival Season on the island

The Christmas time is over and most of our visitors have gone back home. Our lives here on the island are slowly getting back to the normal… which means, back to the old habits!

Old habits of the island Villages include the very well organized carnival festive customs. Almost every village across the island has its carnival group, something like Rio, but well, in smaller numbers. If we were to count, the number of people and the effort put into it, well, we are not sure!? We could definitely say that Korcula Island has a very strong tradition and makes it worth considering a visit in this part of the season. You might not understand some of the satire which is local, but most of it is very universal and very funny.

Definitely a month in front of us that will be filled with laughter. The custom is the carnival balls with a final ball deciding a winner of the year for the best group, and the last days parade which ends with burning of the carnival doll, symbolizing all the evil from the past year. The youngest to the oldest people enjoy it and get involved. It doesn’t cost anything to put on the mask and get crazy a little! Why wouldn’t you?
